The American Way entails being #1. #1 in Healthcare debt… #1 in incarceration… #1 in childhood mortality by guns than any advanced democracy. 

 

It is the self-proclaimed “Land of the Free” yet Americans do not possess the Four Freedoms of Human Rights declared by Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt: Freedom from Want, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom from Fear. This piece highlights the lack of Freedom from Fear as well as its intentional exacerbation by iniquitous private actors. The fear of being gunned down at school, a concert, a movie theater, a grocery store, or any public space. Ironically, the lack of this freedom has truly turned this into “the Land of the Brave” because in this dystopian reality, Americans must be brave to go about their lives with the looming threat of mass shootings. 

 

Nearly 30 years after Columbine, Americans have become systematically desensitized through a methodical campaign run by the privately run National Rifle Association (NRA). As a special interest group, their interest is guns, maximizing the sales of them, and maintaining their chokehold to achieve the profit.Their efforts entail buying 201 of 535 members of the US Congress, calculated PR management, as well as running their own streaming service; an integral apparatus in their propaganda machine. Time and time again, they feed us empty promises, hollow sympathy, fear, and distractions from sensible reform. They say, “A good guy with a gun will stop a bad guy with a gun.” At face value this is nothng more of a naive, idealistic thought. In reality, its the mantra of a gun salesman securing two sales. Their business model profits on ‘bleaching’ this country of the blood they advocate to be split on this land. 

 

American history since its inception is riddled with attempts by powerful entities, public and private, to bleach away their lies and atrocities.  They will continue Bleaching Blood as it is the American Way. Bleach may hide small stains but its can not wash away a sea of blood. Simultaneously though, the bleach can only “cleanse” the sea if We the People allow it to be bleached…
